Panorama of Jerusalem from Mount Scopus

P.Z. (Photochrome Zurich)

Circa 1895

Photochrome, Vintage, 22,5 cm x 16,5 cm, Private Collection

Mount Scopus, at a height of 826 meters, is located in north-east of Jerusalem. The mountain overlooks a beautiful panoramic view of the city. Its name in many languages, such as Hebrew, Arabic, Greek, and Latin, means “Observation post”. “Scopus” is indeed a Latinization of the Greek word “Scopos” which means “observe”. This mountain is therefore recognized as a strategic place since ancient times.
