Monument Valley is an american natural site located on the Utah and Arizona. The exceptional geological formations made the place famous. The Navajos named it Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, which means valley of the rocks. Featured in many Western movies, Monument Valley embodies the Far West for many people.
In this photograph Ansel ADAMS manages to show both the overall image that we can have, through the landscape, and the materiality of the place, by rendering the textures of eroded rocks in the foreground. This point of view eventually became famous and was photographed by a lot of people, including Brett WESTON who made a photograph very close to Ansel ADAMS’. It differs by the emphasis on the sky.
