Circa 1895

Photochrome, Vintage, 22,5 cm x 16,5 cm, Collection Privée

The water carrier was one of the lowest occupations of the social ladder in Palestine in the 19th century. However, this job was vital in a warm country where drinking water is often precious. This young water carrier posed for a picture, with his goatskin on his shoulder, in front of one of the walls of Jerusalem.
