Circa 1895

Photochrome, Vintage, 22,5 cm x 16,5 cm, Collection Privée

The Sea of Galilee, Kinneret or Kinnereth, is located in Tiberias, the former administrative capital of Galilee. This gentle lake, whose main source is the Jordan River, is on the Ghorn moat, at 200 meters below sea level. This lake has several names according to the Bible: Kinneret, Kinnereth, Sea of Galilee, and Sea of Tiberias. As it is an area where there are lots of fish, since a very long time ago, the fishing activity has been very active. It is on this lake where Jesus calmed a storm and where Jesus walked on the waters. It is there where he called some apostles, who were fishermen, to leave their work and to follow him in order to become “Fishers of men”. After the Resurrection, Jesus made his last appearance to them to assure a fishing activity and to confirm Saint Peter in his house.
