Rachel is a person in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. She was Jacob’s second wife, Abraham’s grandson. According to Genesis, she had a beautiful appearance. Rachel was a sterile woman. She came to Jerusalem to pray for having a child. She was rewarded, in other words, she gave birth to Joseph, her first son. Yet, she remained infertile for 12 years after Joseph’s birth. She finally conceived her last son. She died while giving birth to Benjamin. Her tomb is today the symbol of great devotion and the third holy place of Judaism.
