Tournelle Bridge, Paris

Stephen WILKES

2013

série : Day to Night, digital photography

Light is a recurrent subject in the artist’s work. From day to night, shadows, colors and brightness vary intensely.

In his photo Tournelle bridge, Paris, the artist focuses mainly on brightness. The idea here is to make all the different atmospheres that these Parisian places can carry within themselves in a single photograph. A sporty morning with rowers on the right then the weather turns and the late after-noon continues, Fresh and romantic with a honeymoon couple in the foreground. Next to them a second, more discreet couple is captured in a moment of complicity. Behind them, Notre Dame lights up. The lights get hot and the boats leave large trails of light behind them. Paris alive and changing, romantic and festive. In this photography there is a dance of day and night that revolves around the island of the city. The day flees to the right where the Seine splits in two, then the night comes from the left. A perpetual round.
