The photograph AS11-40-5880 is part of a series of 5 photographs taken by Buzz ALDRIN (numbered from 5876 to 5880). This is an experiment named Bootprint Penetration Experiment which was supposed to make measurements. Specialists can study and hypothesize about the texture of the lunar soil. The result is an iconic photograph which shows the boot and the footprint left by the early explorers of the Moon. The symbolic significance of this image is extremely powerful. It is part of the forty photographs selected as the most emblematic by NASA.
