The Lunar Mare are large and dark basaltic plains on the Moon. They are formed by ancient volcanic eruptions and by the impact of large meteorites. The Lunar mare contain many sinuous ravines. Diamondback Rille is a river of dried lava that crosses the south of Mare Tranquillitatis (Sea of tranquility in English). This was the landing point of Apollo 11.
